The links that prove to Google your business is part of its community

Prominence is a third of the local algorithm, and links are how the web votes. I earn yours from local news, chambers, sponsorships, and industry associations — relationships that exist offline and happen to link online.

Local links are earned in your zip code, not bought from a marketplace

When two businesses are otherwise equal, links usually decide who takes the third Map Pack spot. A mention from your city’s newspaper, your chamber of commerce, or the little league team you sponsor tells Google your business is a known, embedded part of its community. And local links are far more attainable than national ones — you’re competing with other local businesses, most of whom never try.

Where I earn links

  • Local media story pitches to city news sites: expansions, hires, milestones, data a local reporter can use.
  • Sponsorships — youth sports, school events, charity runs. Real community investment that returns a link and goodwill.
  • Chambers & business associations — membership listings that double as trusted citations.
  • Industry associations & suppliers — trade organizations and “find a certified installer” pages with real vetting.
  • Local resource content — genuinely useful cost guides and checklists that local sites reference.
  • Unlinked mention reclamation — places already talking about you that just haven’t linked yet.

What I don’t do

No private blog networks, no paid guest-post marketplaces, no comment spam. Those links either do nothing or become a liability in the next spam update. Every placement I make is one I’d be comfortable showing to a Google engineer. Pricing: [PLACEHOLDER — add link building pricing].

Local Link Building questions

Local link building is lumpy — sponsorship season might land four links in a month, then outreach quiets for six weeks. I commit to a pipeline of active opportunities and report every placement. Anyone promising a fixed number per month is selling from a farm.

For Map Pack rankings, a link from your city’s news site, chamber, or a respected local organization often does more than a generic high-DA link, because it reinforces local prominence — Google’s own stated ranking force.

You’re sponsoring the team; the link documents a real relationship. The sponsorship exists offline, benefits the community, and Google treats these as legitimate signals.

Your competitors' links are public. Let's look at them.
